Equity at the Center: NAACP Louisville Branch Calls for Accountability in JCPS Reorganization

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Louisville, Ky. - The NAACP is closely monitoring recent organizational changes within Jefferson County Public Schools and is calling on district leadership to ensure that equity and accountability remain central as these changes are implemented.

While restructuring may be necessary, structural change alone does not guarantee improved outcomes—particularly for students who have long experienced inequitable access to resources. Equity must be visible in schools and classrooms, not just referenced in plans.

The NAACP is concerned that broader, centralized leadership roles, while potentially improving efficiency, could weaken direct accountability to the students and communities who need it most. That risk makes it essential that new leadership roles include clear responsibilities and measurable outcomes.

As the reorganization progresses, the NAACP urges the district to publicly answer a fundamental question: What concrete commitments remain to support schools that are predominantly poor and Black?

The NAACP will continue to engage district leadership and advocate publicly to ensure that student outcomes—not structure alone—remain the priority.

Equity must be visible in schools and classrooms, not just referenced in plans.
