St. Stephen’s Baptist Church Declares Jan. 18 “NAACP Sunday” as Part of MLK Holiday Celebration

Louisville, Ky. — St. Stephen’s Baptist Church has proclaimed Sunday, Jan. 18, “NAACP Sunday” in honor of the Louisville Branch NAACP and the organization’s Kentucky State Conference president as part of its Martin Luther King Jr. holiday observance. The day will focus on justice, civic engagement, and the NAACP’s ongoing work in the Louisville community. The primary observance will take place during the church’s 10 a.m. worship service, with additional recognition during the 7:45 a.m. service.

Representatives of the Louisville Branch NAACP will speak at both services, sharing information about the organization’s current initiatives, community advocacy efforts, and the challenges ahead. NAACP youth chapters from Simmons College and the University of Louisville will also participate in the services. Throughout the morning, the NAACP will host information tables at the church to recruit volunteers for committee work, enroll new members, register voters, and provide general information about the organization’s mission and programs.

In addition, each St. Stephen’s Sunday School class has designated a “social justice leader” responsible for keeping members informed about the work of the Louisville Branch NAACP and for sharing its messages with their classes regularly. The Branch will provide weekly or as-needed updates for distribution through these leaders. As part of its broader outreach, St. Stephen’s Baptist Church will also record a quarterly informational message from the Louisville Branch NAACP. These messages will be shared with churches across the community for presentation during worship services.

NAACP Sunday underscores St. Stephen’s Baptist Church’s continued commitment to social justice and community engagement in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy.
