NAACP Louisville Branch Condemns Department of Justice (DOJ) Request to Dismiss Charges in Breonna Taylor Case

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The NAACP Louisville Branch expresses deep dismay and outrage at the U.S. Department of Justice’s request to dismiss charges against two former Louisville police officers accused of conspiring to falsify information used to obtain a search warrant that ultimately led to the death of Breonna Taylor.

This development comes six years after Ms. Taylor was fatally shot in her apartment during a botched police raid carried out by the Louisville Metro Police Department. The warrant used in the raid was based on information allegedly falsified by former officers Joshua Jaynes and Kyle Meany.

The NAACP Louisville Branch strongly urges the presiding judge to reject the Department of Justice’s request and allow the judicial process to proceed without interference. The dismissal of the most serious charges earlier in the case has already dealt a significant blow to accountability efforts.

“The Department of Justice’s request is not only callous but deeply disrespectful to the memory of Breonna Taylor and to her family, who have waited six long years for justice,” the organization stated. “This action sends a troubling message and risks undermining public trust in our justice system.”

The NAACP views this request as an attempt to minimize responsibility and justify the killing of a Black woman whose life was unjustly taken. The organization remains steadfast in its commitment to stand alongside Taylor’s family and the Louisville community in the continued fight for justice and accountability.
